St. Ludgeri Church, Munster
Saint Ludgeri Church is a gem of medieval architecture and one of Westphalia鈥檚 oldest sacred buildings, dating back to its inauguration in 1173 under Bishop Ludwig聽I. Originally constructed in the Romanesque style, the landmark was largely rebuilt after a devastating city fire in 1383, gaining a grand Gothic high choir and an elevated crossing tower.
Set on Munster鈥檚 bustling Marienplatz, this three鈥慳isled hall church beautifully blends sturdy Romanesque proportions with soaring Gothic elements. The crossing tower is especially striking, with its two lower Romanesque floors topped by two decorative Gothic levels complete with openwork tracery and detailed ironwork spires.
