Recently, I had the opportunity to explore Saarbrücken, the charming capital of Saarland, during a business trip. Despite its relatively small population of 182,000, Saarbrücken offers a wealth of attractions. Situated on the border with France, you can distinctly feel the cultural influence of our neighbouring country here, whether it’s in the architecture, cuisine, or way of life.

My sightseeing adventure commenced at the Saarbrücken Castle. This magnificent castle, with origins dating back to the 18th century, is not only an impressive architectural gem but also a vital cultural and historical landmark in the region. Constructed under the rule of Prince Wilhelm Heinrich of Nassau-Saarbrücken by his master builder, Stengel, it once served as the residence of the princes. Today, it houses the Saarland state government and stands as a witness to the eventful history of Saarland. Visitors can explore the palace’s splendid rooms, including the Hall of Mirrors, adorned with intricate stucco work and ceiling paintings, as well as the Gallery of Ancestors and the Palace Chapel. The palace garden beckons for leisurely strolls and relaxation, offering magnificent city views. Guided tours of the castle are complimentary, with only a €7 entrance fee. ......
