The island province of Guimaras may have been little heard of, but it is quite a hidden gem of its own.
Guimaras Island is specifically known for its agricultural industry. In particular, half of all the mangoes which are exported out of the Philippines actually come from the Guimaras! The island’s unique soul produces the country’s sweetest variety of mangoes.
Mangoes are such a priced commodity here that Guimaras holds an annual Manggahan Festival every May ever since the year of 1993. The Guimaras mangoes are so reputable, in fact, that the mangoes served in the White House and the Buckingham Palace are reported to have been produced here.
Interestingly, the Guimaras Island is actually a part of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras, one of the twelve metropolitan areas of the Philippines. To get to Guimaras, one simply has to head to the Parola Wharf in Iloilo City and then take one of the frequent ferry rides across to the Guimaras Island.
