Miami's Celebrity Homes Walking Tour (Self Guided), Miami
Environmentalists may worry about rising sea levels threatening to subsume Miami Beach someday, but that doesn't stop North Bay Road, a.k.a. Millionaire's Row, nestled in the heart of Miami Beach, from housing some of the hottest real estate on the planet. And the secret for that is out, says Christian de Berdouare, a chicken restaurant magnate and a longtime resident on the upper part of the street: “North Bay Road is probably the best street in all of Miami Beach. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.”
A good number of the rich and famous reside on the La Gorce Island which is also part of the area, and was built in 1924. Named in honor Dr. John Oliver LaGorce, President of the National Geographic Magazine Company, this island was purchased in 1936 by LaGorce Island, Inc. In 1946, the newly-formed LaGorce Island Association, Inc. assumed full responsibility of the landscaping, building and maintenance of local parkways, eventually transforming LaGorce into an elite residential and tropical oasis, home to many of Miami Beach's largest, most prestigious homes.
If you wish to see the dwellings of some of the most popular celebrity residents of Miami – athletes, musicians, actors, etc., follow this self-guided walk.
